  • Do "Crooks and Homos in the Pulpit" Cause Corruption in the Church?

I just read an article about a newly released book entitled Crooks and Homos in the Pulpit by Reuben Armstrong, national talk show host and Essence Magazine's number one best selling author.

Focusing on the lives of megapastors Bishop T.D. Jakes, Eddie Long, Joel Osteen and Bishop Eddie Long, reported homosexual pastor, Ted Haggard, as well as their megachurches, Armstrong points out what he believes to be the underlying reasons behind the corruption in the church today.

Armstrong held a private news conference in his studio to discuss the rampant spread of homosexuality and theivery that has taken over many pastors and churches.  In Armstrong's view, crooks and homosexuals are spreading lies and deception throughout the Christian chruch.  Their lifestyles are becoming an epidemic in the church, and Armstrong is outraged that little is being done to stop it or confront who he calls "false teachers."

Armstrong explains the central message of his book:

"Too many churches have forgotten about saving souls. That's because the pastors and ministers are only think about how many women and men they can sleep inside and outside of the church, and how much money they can steal from God people," said Armstrong.

He added that pastors and ministers are misleading their congregations by diverting the focus to prosperity (material things) instead of having a personal relationship with God.

The article closes with a question Armstrong deeply examines:

Could it be that the current economic hurricane battering the USA—and the world—is due to the Church being led into apostasy by leaders such as Bishop T.D. Jakes, Eddie Long, Joel Osteen and Bishop Eddie Long? Is God using this maelstrom as an emergency call to his Body to humble itself and pray as 2 Chronicles 7:14 states?

Do you agree with Armstrong? Is it possible that "crooks and homos in the pulpit" are responsible for the corruption that exists in the church, the U.S., and the world?  Or is Armstrong blowing this issue far out of proportion?

I wouldn't respect the opinion of any Christian leader calling people "Homos." He's a slanderer.

No, hypocrites undermine the church. I don`t think for example homosexual priests in the espicopalian church undermine the church as an instution because whether you agree with their presence or not they are open about who they are and their relationship to the church.
